Whether you are looking for a childcare centre in Wattle Grove or any Perth suburb, it could get a lot tougher in the next few years. The reason is that 300,000 more children are expected to be placed in subsidised child care by the year 2020. According to Government figures, 1.7 million children are currently eligible for subsidised child care. That number is projected to increase by 300,000 to 2 million in 2020.
This is projected to produce the need for 1,600 more childcare centres by 2020, with no apparent plan in place to handle the increase. The current Education Minister, Simon Birmingham, feels that the private sector will react to the market and create enough childcare centres to meet future demand. Opposing voices aren’t so sure.

The Childcare Centre Perspective
We have been able to meet the demand for child care in our area, but we can see where it could become an issue for some parents to receive child care. We know this could cause some people to quit work and we would never want to see that happen. We are squarely on the side of parents and children. We want to see child care accessible for everyone who needs it.
We like seeing the subsidised programs because they allow so many people who would be stuck at home to work. We believe every child should have access to child care and every parent should be able to afford to go to work.
As far as we’re concerned, if 300,000 more children qualify for subsidies, that’s 300,000 children who receive adequate child care and between 300,000 and 600,000 parents who can afford to work a full schedule.
We know there are places in Australia that have crippling waiting lists that deprive children of care and parents the chance to work. We never want to see that in the Perth area. We will do our best to meet whatever demands the market places on us.
