We have a philosophy at every Cuddles Childcare Centre in the Perth area: learning through play. We serve surrounding suburbs as well, including Queens Park. We have seen numerous studies proving that children learn best when they are engaged in creative play.
Benefits of Creative Play
Creative play fosters creativity in children. It allows them to express their feelings and helps them develop motor skills. Children learn thinking and problem-solving skills while playing and interacting with their peers. It can help them see situations in a new light by giving them a different perspective.
When children play dress-up or pretend to be different characters, it allows them to express their feelings and develop ideas. Children will often put themselves in songs or stories that they hear or see.
Artist at Work
Children love to create visual art with paint, crayons, clay, playdough, glue, scissors and paper. They are learning to experiment with visual space and some will begin to experiment with texture and colours. Children will often use basic shapes such as a triangle, a square and a circle to draw a house with a sun over it. As they develop further, they will learn to add more detail.
Children with musical aptitude will sing to express ideas. They will know the melodies to their favourite songs and some of the words. Many are able to sing melodies accurately, even at an early age. When children are singing along to songs, they are learning the difference between fast and slow, loud and soft and long and short. Children with rhythmic aptitude will often “drum” with their hands or even bang on whatever they can use as an instrument.
Children who dance or sway to music are not only showing musical aptitude, but are developing motor skills and learning how to control their body movement. Dancing allows children to express joy, excitement or happiness through movement. Children can also express sadness through movement.
