It may not seem important in a day care centre, but we always let our Perth parents know that we are aware of their child’s learning style. We believe in learning through play and incorporate a number of programs to encourage it. The programs are diverse and cover all learning styles by design. We ensure that any child, regardless of learning style, engages in activities that help them take advantage of their strengths.
Believe it or not, most children reveal their style of learning very early in life. Even as babies, children make their preferred styles of learning obvious.
Three Basic Styles
Looker or Visual
If your baby doesn’t move around a lot and doesn’t make a lot of noise, but is always actively looking at things, your baby is a visual learner. They will want you to show them things. Charts and pictures are great ways to get a visual learner to learn. They are attracted to colours, motion and shapes. They will usually have great hand-eye coordination. They will probably be strong in computers and math.
Listener or Audio
Listeners learn best with words and sounds. They usually develop large vocabularies early in life. They will usually learn how to read earlier than the other two types of learners.
Mover or Tactile
If your child is a mover, they probably learned how to crawl early and learned how to walk early. Tactile learners are also called experiential learners. They are usually coordinated early. They will learn best by doing or experiencing. This often leaves them on the “short end of the stick” when it comes to math and reading, and can also cause a problem if they are expected to sit still for too long.
Giving Your Child the Best Chance at Learning
Your child learns best in their preferred mode. That is why we incorporate audio, visual and experiential games into all of our Cuddles Childcare Centres. Contact us to learn more.
