Friday, 6 February, will be a very special day for each Cuddles Childcare Centre in the Perth area — it’s our 20th birthday. Every Cuddles Childcare Centre location will have a celebration that day. Our centres are in these Perth suburbs: St James, Carlisle and Bertram.
The Bertram Centre is the earliest, celebrating from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. The St James Centre will celebrate from 2 pm – 4 pm. The Carlisle Centre will celebrate from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Each centre will have a giant birthday cake and a sausage sizzle. We will provide a bouncy castle for the children. There will be a lot of surprises and festivities at each location.
We will also be unveiling the new staff uniform for the first time. While many operations become stale after 20 years, we still have the same commitment to constant improvement so that we can continue to provide high quality child care to the Perth area.
What Differentiates Cuddles Childcare Centres from Everyone Else
At Cuddles Childcare Centres, our motto is “Learning Through Play.” We have read countless studies proving that children learn the best when they are fully engaged in play. We strive to provide the best environment possible for children to play, both individually and in groups.
We do that by offering a plethora of fun activities and only hiring employees who are dedicated to child care. The end result is an environment in which your child has fun all day and learns at the same time. Here are a few of our activities.
In Messy Play, we provide “messy” materials of different colours and textures. Our staff members “roll up their sleeves” and play alongside the children. The children get a lot of tactile stimulation as they put their hands in different materials and make a “mess.” This helps them develop their senses of touch and discernment. All while they are having fun.
Jessie’s Art Time
Every week, Jessie visits each centre and brings in a surprise art activity for the children. Sometimes, even we are surprised by how creative the children can be and the artistic and creative potential they display. The activity is different each week and provides an ideal combination of structure and the opportunity to be creative.
Shake ‘n’ Bake
Shake ‘n’ Bake has become one of the children’s favourite activities. The children help the staff cook safe, simple meals. Children are given simple, easy tasks. They develop fine motor skills by completing tasks such as pouring or stirring. They learn math skills when they measure or count ingredients. They are learning organisational and cleanliness skills as they become aware about food preparation.
When the children help the staff members cook, it creates bonds between children and staff members as well as children and other children. They learn how to cooperate and work as a team. They also learn to share and socialise. When they prepare and eat dishes from other cultures, they learn more about those cultures.
The most fun of all: eating what they helped to cook. It is no wonder that Shake ‘n’ Bake has become so popular among children and staff.
There are other great activities as well. In Junior Soccer goals, the children play soccer in a way that teaches them the fun aspects of soccer. Friday Fun Day may be the best of all for the children, as every Friday has unique activities and everybody has a lot of fun. Even babies get into the act with Let’s Squiggle, in which they use materials such as coloured pencils and a white plastic tablecloth in creating arts and crafts.
Looking Back and Looking Forward
At Cuddles, we are proud to have provided the highest quality of child care for the Perth area for the last twenty years and are excited to think about the next twenty years. We don’t know where the next twenty years will take us, but we do know that we will always ask one question whenever making a decision: “Is it better for the children?”
