When you take your child to a childcare centre in Vic Park or anywhere in the Perth area, the centre should give them ample opportunities to learn through play. But did you know you can continue the process for them at home if you choose their play wisely?
Play based learning is the most effective way for your child to learn between the ages of one and five. Playing helps your child develop both imagination and skills. As a parent, there are a lot of things you can do to help the process along. First, you can promote safe ways for your child to play that help them get used to making decisions and learning.
However, you must never lose touch with the fact that you are playing. It should always be fun for your child and never feel like work or like they are being forced to learn. That will happen to them plenty when they get to school. Here are some great activities you can do with your child to promote learning through play.
Go outside with your child. If you don’t have a lot of playground equipment in your backyard, take your child to a park where there is some. They love the basics, like running on the grass, jumping into or over puddles and using the playground equipment.
Make an obstacle course that you and your child can explore together. Play rudimentary sports with your child, such as throwing or kicking a ball back and forth.
Play childhood games like hide and seek or hopscotch. Imitate animals: jump like a kangaroo. Encourage your child to think and create by building a house out of a cardboard box or making a car out of blocks. Let your child blow bubbles, especially on a windy day and have them guess how far the bubbles will go. Some finger paints and some paper are great for creativity, too.
