We strongly feel that it is our responsibility in a child care centre in the Cannington area to help your children develop skills and attitudes that will help them transition easily into the Perth educational system. We strive to accomplish this in an environment of support that allows children to learn through play. It is important to let children this age have fun and not turn their preschool days into drudgery.
As children play, they naturally explore their world. They learn how they relate to the world and to other people in it. As they explore, they learn to use all of their senses. Their language skills improve, allowing for more sophisticated and complicated discussions. They learn how to solve problems methodically and creatively.
Engagement, Persistence and Initiative
Your child is becoming more discerning and begins making deliberate choices, such as where they want to go and who they want to play with. They are learning how to focus their attention for longer than before. A great example of this is solving a puzzle and following it all the way through from beginning to end.
They are also learning to do more things for themselves, such as dressing, eating and grooming. They are becoming more independent and able to complete tasks on their own.
A child’s curiosity, if encouraged, will help them learn at an incredibly fast rate. They will enjoy listening to stories, playing with friends or going to new places. They will ask more questions and the questions will become increasingly complex and sophisticated. They will seek out new experiences and adventures.
Problem Solving and Reasoning
At this age, your child is learning how to use reasoning to solve problems. This starts with simple tasks such as putting on their shoes and clothing, but can progress rapidly.
Preschoolers are at an age where they become able to imagine objects, people and scenarios. This results in “tea parties,” games and many other creative imaginary scenarios.
