In April and May, each Cuddles Childcare Centre in the Perth area is going to host the critically acclaimed Living Eggs program. Living Eggs is a two-week program that allows schools and child care centres to hatch chickens in the classroom.
Living Eggs has been offered in Australia for 19 years. Schools and care homes alike love Living Eggs and rebook year after year due to the reaction of all concerned. From children to adults, everyone who participates has their heart touched by watching chickens hatch and make their way “out of their shell.”
How Living Eggs Works
Each school receives a kit which includes embryo eggs, an incubator and a brooder box. The eggs are delivered when they are 2-3 days from hatching and have been candled to ensure the highest likelihood of hatching.
The incubator is designed for the classroom. It has an electric thermostat which controls the temperature to a tenth of a degree. This ensures a high hatch rate. The incubator is configured in a way to make it easy for children to watch the egg through the various stages of hatching.
The brooder box has a heat light, feed, a waterer and bedding. This allows teachers and children alike to view and to access the chicks.
Cuddles and Living Eggs guarantee that the chicks are treated humanely and that all sourcing and operations are ethical.
Why We Chose Living Eggs
We have seen great feedback on Living Eggs. We strive to provide your children with a diverse selection of experiences. We want those experiences to be fun and educational. We love Living Eggs because the experience of watching chicks hatch fills children with awe and wonder while teaching them elementary biology.
