In our Zebra Room, our Early Childhood Teachers develop a kindergarten program for children age 4-5 years that is focussed on school readiness. This program is a child-led learning program that is appropriate for the developmental, age and interest of each child. It is in line with the Early Years Learning Framework as well as the WA Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines.
We also practice a buddy system where older children are paired with younger children during morning play time. This encourages older aged children to practice mutual respect, care and to foster an appreciation for diversity, inclusivity and friendship with children younger than then.
Instead of a black or white board, the room is equipped with an electronic board. It is an integrated interactive touch screen that utilises optical sensor technology. It allows educators to access content online and through applications to enhance their curriculum. It is also a platform that encourages children to learn and collaborate simultaneously. E-boards are commonly used in schools and having it available to our children will help them settle better into school.
In each room, environments are created and developed with the children, allowing them the opportunity to take ownership of their environments and developing respect for learning resources and other children’s work. Conversations between Educators and children help to guide children’s behaviour and strengthen relationships as they learn about managing emotions and actions.
