It is important to remember that you and your childcare centre are partners when it comes to raising your children. We know a lot of parents commute from a suburb like Wattle Grove to Perth and back every day.
We know it can be tempting to just drop your child off, pick him or her up and not think about what happens during the day, but we encourage you to be as involved in your child’s preschool experience as possible. We think the most important way to be involved is to do your “due diligence” and choose the best child care centre for your child.
You will want to plan ahead. What days will your child need child care? What hours? Research your options and figure out what kind of child care centre will suit your child’s needs the best.
Once you have figured out one or more options that you feel will be right for your child, you need to gather basic information such as when they are open, when you can drop off and pick up your child, whether the school closes during vacation times, if you can call or visit your child whenever you want and what is provided in the way of meals and nappies.
Some other important items are the ratio of staff to children, the experience and skills of the staff, what ages the centre cares for and how learning will be encouraged.
It is also a very good idea to learn what subsidies and grants you may be eligible for and the rules and regulations of the child care facility.
