If you are preparing to take your child to a childcare centre in Cannington or anyplace else in the Perth market for the first time, it is going to require a huge adjustment for your child. Luckily, at Cuddles Childcare Centres, we are experts at making that transition as easy as possible for your child.
However, we have found that the children who are the most well-adjusted from the beginning are those whose parents were able to prepare them for child care. Here are the two main stages of preparing for child care.
Your child is going to face an adjustment period, but it can be a lot easier if you get them used to the centre’s routine so that it isn’t such a change. Once you decide upon a child care centre, get a copy of the centre’s schedule and routine. Then, try to follow the same routine for meals, naps and playtime. This will make it easier for your child to adjust.
You may also want to ask for a photograph of your child’s main carer, show it to the child and talk about the carer by name. This will give your child a familiar “touchstone” or “anchor” when left at school the first few days. For more familiarity, take your child to visit the facility a few times before you leave them there.
The Night Before
Since the first day will be the most stressful, you want to ensure that your child is physically and mentally sharp. Make sure to provide a healthy meal the night before and make sure your child gets plenty of sleep.
Then, pack everything your child will require, such as nappies, formula, bottles, hat, any food or snacks not provided by the centre, medical record, medications and spare clothing. Put your child’s name on all items.
