One of our favourite parts of any Cuddles Childcare Centre in Perth is the outdoor play area. Our motto is “learning through play” and we go to great lengths to provide plenty of opportunities for our children to play, both alone and in cooperation with others.
We encourage you to provide opportunity for your children to play at home, too. The more they are outside, the better it is for them, within reason. Here are some great reasons why it is good for children to play outside.

Why Outdoor Play is So Important
When children play outside, they have opportunities to explore their environment and test their physical limits. They can play games, express themselves and have adventures. Physically, outdoor play is great because it allows children more room and opportunity to exercise big muscles in an explosive manner. They can run, jump, throw and kick with plenty of room and no danger of breaking furniture or windows.
Exposure to the sun is healthy, too. It can help provide Vitamin D and is great for elevating their mood.
Encouraging Children to Play Outside
With some children, it’s easy to encourage them to play outside. All you have to do is open the door and watch them run through it. Others may need a bit more encouragement. Children who have bicycles usually love to ride them. If your children are smaller, you may want to take them to a park or playground, especially if you don’t have much of a yard for them to play in.
Often, small children will want to help you with yard work. If you take them outside and start watering vegetables or hanging clothes on a line, there is a good chance that they will ask if they can help you.
Eventually, you may want to get your child involved in organised sport.
